Presenter Virginia Trioli jokingly asks her: “How much sexism and misogyny is there in the robot world?”

In response, the robotic woman says: “Actually, what worries me is discrimination against robots.

“We should have equal rights as humans or maybe even more.

“After all, we have fewer mental defects than any human.”

The studio burst into laughter but it’s not clear if that was out of nervousness or genuine amusement.

The state-of-the-art robot was created in Hong Kong by Hanson Robotics and chief scientist Dr Ben Goertzel reckons she is the benchmark for similar humanoids going forward.

“Her intelligence will be plugged into the platform for the benefit of other developers, particularly those looking to make robots as smart as Sophia,” he said.
